New and critical orchids of the Cauca Department
Abstract
When reviewing the botanical bibliography, classic and contemporary, we find that the department of Cauca is one of the richest in Colombian orchid species. And in several articles we propose to divulge the new species that are being found as the explorations advance; those initially described for the department and we will also indicate the species that have become extinct or are on the way to extinction.
In this first article we describe a new species collected by the ecologist Álvaro José Negret, director of the Natural History Museum of the University of Cauca, in the Tambito forest reserve, recently created and adjacent to the Munchique National Natural Park; We reproduce several drawings of Caucan species represented in the published volumes of the Flora of the Royal Botanical Expedition of the New Kingdom of Granada directed by Don José Celestino Mutis; we point out the new species of Cauca described in the work "Nova Genera et Species Plantarum" by Alejandro de Humboldt, Aimè Bonplant and Carlos Segusmundo Kunth.
