Abstract

NOVEDADES COLOMBIANAS appeared between 1954 and 1961 as an organ of the Museum of Natural History of the Universidad del Cauca, achieving a remarkable academic level. Following an initiative of the Popayán Chapter of the Colombian Association for the Advancement of Science, ACAC, the Universidad del Cauca begins a second series of NOVEDADES COLOMBIANAS. The Universidad del Cauca is undergoing a period of expansion characterized by the rethinking of its traditional academic programs and the study of new ones that respond to the demands of the region and the nation at the present time. In the area of research, the administration of the scientific processes carried out by personnel linked to the University has been organized, its activities are disseminated and interest in research is promoted at the broadest level. In the field of extension, the University is increasingly present in the community, not only with cultural activities of various kinds, but also with studies and programs of co-administration with the organized population.
