About the Journal

The Revista de la Facultad Ciencias de la Salud Universidad del Cauca (RFCS) is the official organ of this Faculty in charge of publishing articles of general interest in the field of Health and Medical Education. Articles are received on a permanent basis and are submitted for peer review, subject to the approval of the Editorial Committee.
Its instructions and policies are in accordance with the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
Periodicity: It is published every six months and its issues are published in June and December. Recently, it has incorporated the continuous publication modality to improve the visibility and periodicity of its contents.
Peer review process
Papers submitted to the RFCS must be unpublished, i.e., neither the article nor any part of it may have been published or be in the process of publication in another journal. These restrictions do not apply to abstracts or reports published in connection with scientific meetings. Subsequent publication or reproduction of all or part of an article published in RFCS requires the permission of the Editorial Board. The RFCS editors reserve the right to use specialized software to search for and identify plagiarism in the articles received (www.crossref.org/crosscheck/).
All persons designated as authors must be qualified to do so. It is considered that each author must have participated sufficiently in the work to assume public responsibility for its content. The RFCS adopts the standards of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, according to which authorship is based on: 1) contributing substantially to the conception and design of the study, the collection of the data, or the analysis and interpretation of the data; 2) writing the manuscript or critically reviewing it for intellectual content; and 3) approving the final version of the manuscript. To be considered an author, an author must meet all three conditions. Participation limited to seeking funding, collecting information, or supervising the research group does not justify authorship. The order of appearance of authors should be agreed upon by the authors. All manuscripts submitted to the RFCS should include a final section (just before the references) entitled “Authors' Contribution” detailing the individual contribution to the research and to the manuscript of each author.
The RFCS assumes no responsibility for the ideas presented by the authors and is not responsible for the indications or therapeutic schemes proposed by them.
The author agrees to accept the review of the work by the peer reviewers, the editorial board or scientific committee and to make the suggested corrections, which are based on international standards.
The journal reserves the right to make changes in the text, which do not imply a change in the meaning of the same, in order to improve the writing of the work.
Route of publication
The text must be submitted to the RFCS through the OJS system, accompanied by a letter signed by each of the authors, clearly stating that it has been approved by all and that the article in question has not been published in whole or in part in another journal and is not currently in another editorial process. In addition, the cover letter should explicitly state that the authors have reviewed in detail, fully complied with the RFCS guidelines, and checked all sections of their manuscript as described in these guidelines. For this purpose, authors should use the standard RFCS “manuscript submission letter” format located on the RFCS website.
- The editor checks if the document complies with the RFCS guidelines. If not, he/she will inform the authors, via e-mail, so that they can make the necessary changes. If the text complies with the indications, it is sent to two peer reviewers.
- The peer reviewers issue a concept according to the criteria established by the RFCS and determine whether the document is a) publishable, b) publishable with minor recommendations, c) publishable with major recommendations or d) not publishable/rejected for publication. For the first case (a), step 5 is continued and for the last one (d), the authors are notified via e-mail.
- In the case of an article that requires modifications (b, c), it will be returned to the authors so that they can make the suggested adjustments and send the new version to the editor.
- The editorial committee will proofread the document and endorse its final version for publication.
It is important to note that the receipt of an article by the RFCS editorial group does not imply any obligation for its acceptance, nor any commitment regarding the date of publication. Authors should keep copies of all material submitted.
