Cancellation of elective surgery in an institution III level of care
Abstract
Objective: Identify the causes that influence the cancellation of elective surgery at a III level of complexity of the city of Popayan in 2010. Methods: We performed a descriptive, cross-sectional in a population of 1007 patients surgically scheduled between February and April 2010, of which 133 were suspended elective surgery, was electively. We used diary that takes in the surgery department, dealing with monthly systematically and instruments developed according to current regulatory framework. The data analysis was performed using SPSS-15. Results: canceled: 13.2% of surgeries that were scheduled were the most frequent causes of patient contraindications by 36,1%, followed by extension of the previous surgery in 11,3% and in the same percentage of patient non-attendance. Conclusion: The cancellation of surgeries in the unit under investigation was due to potentially preventable causes, reflecting an economic impact on the perception of resources by the institution, which involves there organization of services with process standardization.Downloads
