Observations on the biology and behavior of the coral snake “Ají's tail” (Micrurus mipartitus)
Description of a new subspecie
Abstract
The taxonomic characteristics of the snake Micrurus mipartitus are described based on specimens from the Departments of Cauca and Valle (Colombia); according to the variation in the number of black rings on the body, its size and shape, two populations are distinguished that give rise to the description of a new subspecies, separated from the other by a fluvial barrier. A habitat in the south of the Department of Cauca is analyzed, as well as the feeding and reproductive habits and the development of the eggs.
