Hydrobiological study of the Cauca River in the sector between the “La Salvajina” reservoir and the “El Hormiguero” bridge.
Abstract
A physicochemical and biological characterization of the Cauca river was carried out in the sector between the “La Salvajina” reservoir and the “El Hormiguero” bridge in order to establish the potential of hydrobiological resources with special reference to the phycoplankton, aquatic macroinvertebrate and fish communities. Fifty-one genera of algae, 16 genera of aquatic macroinvertebrates and 17 ichthyic species are reported. The oligotrophic conditions of the dam were established and values of physicochemical parameters suitable for the development of biota were detected. The calculated values of the diversity index indicate an ecosystem of medium to low diversity for the studied path.
