NOTES ON THE BIRDS OF “EL CENTRO” IN THE MIDDLE MAGDALENA RIVER VALLEY. COLOMBIA (1)
Abstract
The author of these notes was employed as a Geologist by the Tropical Oil Co. at the El Centro Camp, located in the Department of Santander, Colombia from April 1945 to March 1946, during which time he had the opportunity to make observations on the avifauna of this area and to collect a number of specimens when the opportunity arose. During the first four months very few birds were collected, since I had few facilities to preserve them, which I only succeeded in doing towards the end of August. A total of 256 specimens representing 116 species were collected, which were given to the Royal Ontario Museum of Zoology when I returned to Canada, except for one specimen of Polioptila schisaceigula which is at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
