A new race of Saltator albicollis from Venezuela and adjacent Colombia
Abstract
Examination of the excellent series of South American specimens of the Streaked Saltator (Saltator albicollis) in the Carnegie Museum collection indi- cates the necessity of subdividing the range currently assigned to the subspe- cies S. a. striatipectus (Lafresnaye). The type locality of the latter subspecies is Cali, Cauca Valley, Colombia; with the separation of an additional form, the range of striatipectus becomes restricted to Colombia west of the Eastern Andes. The northeastern population may be known as Saltator albicollis perstriatus, new subspecies.
