Notes on the occurrence and distribution of certain species of Colombian birds
Abstract
With the exception of the records in the “Bogotá” collections, there has been no published record in the ornithological literature for this species from Colombia that I would consider authentic, until that of Dugand in 1951 (Rev.Acad.Col.Ciencias, Vol. VIII, No 30, p. 157). It seems to me totally impossible that the species is found in San Antonio, in the subtropical zone of the western cordillera of the Andes, as stated by Chapman (Birds of Colombia, 1917, p. 187). The species frequents the tropical zone throughout its range. The maximum altitude at which I have taken the bird does not exceed 1,400 meters, and is usually much lower, with its nearest known habitat in the Sierra Perijá and the slopes of the Sierra Macarena (fide Dugand). There must be some error in the labeling of this “San Antonio” specimen. As far as I know, the only large Tinamous found in that region are Nothocercus julius and N.bonaparte.Downloads
