Notas sobre a avifauna da Península da Guajira
Resumo
A Península de Guajira, no extremo nordeste da Colômbia, é o ponto mais setentrional do continente sul-americano. As aves dessa região remota da República da Colômbia foram mencionadas já em 1847, quando F. de Lafresnaye descreveu algumas espécies supostamente provenientes de Riohacha. Dos trabalhadores que exploraram as Montanhas de Santa Marta, apenas F. Joad (1870: Valledupar), F. A. Simons (1878: Valledupar), 878: Valledupar) e M. A. Carriker (1914: Riohacha; 1920: Arroyo de Arenas, Fonseca) fizeram algumas coletas na região semiárida a leste e sudeste das Montanhas de Santa Marta (consulte Todd e Carriker 1922: 21-49 e 577-582). Entretanto, nenhum ornitólogo trabalhou na região árida de Guajira propriamente dita até 1941, quando o Dr. A. Wetmore e M. A. Carriker, acompanhados por F. C. Lehmann V., viajaram para a ponta nordeste da península, onde coletaram aves na Serranía de Macuira, nas proximidades de Nazareth, Puerto Estrella e Puerto López.
